-THE CHRISTIAN’S GUIDE-

 CHAPTER VI

-SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING-

THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST TO US AND IN US UNTO SALVATION.

-SPIRITUAL REVELATION-

JESUS asked, who do you say that I am?

"Peter said, you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.  And Jesus said unto him, blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal this unto you, but My Father who is in Heaven."  (Mat.16:15-17)

(The apostle Paul adds:) "When it was God's pleasure... who called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach among the Gentiles." (Gal.1:15,16)

(We must understand that)"a man can receive nothing, except it have been given him from Heaven." (Jn.3:27)

"For no man can come to Me except the Father that sent Me draw him." (Jn.6:44a)

"Jesus said... I praise You, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and did reveal them unto babes.  Yes Father, for it was pleasing in Your sight.  All things have been delivered unto Me of My Father: And no one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." (Lu.10:21,22)

(For) "you did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and (that) your fruit should remain." (Jn.15:16a)

(Because) "no one comes to the Father, except through Me." (Jn.14:6b)

That is, ALL come to God through the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ—the propitiatory work of Christ upon the cross. Jesus’ full atonement for the sins of the world allows God’s free and unmerited grace to flow out to whomever God wills.  This propitiation is also extended back to God’s first peoples Israel—even back into the Garden of Eden.

-SPIRITUAL UNION-

"Not by power and not by might, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts." (Zech.4:6b)

"He who believes in Me, as the Scriptures have said, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.  But this (Jesus) spoke concerning the Holy Spirit, whom they that believe on Him were to receive." (Jn.7:38,39a)

"I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that He may be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive: For it beholds Him not, neither knows Him; but you know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.  I will not leave you desolate; I come unto you.

Yet a little while and the world beholds Me no more, but you behold Me.  Because I live, you shall live also.

In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves Me.  And he that loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will manifest Myself unto him. Judas (not Iscariot) said unto Him, "Lord, what is come to pass that You will manifest Yourself unto us, and not unto the world?"  Jesus answered and said unto him: If a man loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our home with him." (Jn.14:16-23)

-SPIRITUAL WITNESS-

"The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things." (Jn.14:26a)

"(For) you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things..."

(Yes) "The anointing which you received of Him abides in you, and you need not that anyone teach you; but His anointing will teach you all things..."

"He that keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him.  And hereby we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit which He gave us..."

"Hereby we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us His Spirit.  And we beheld and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world."

"(For) whosoever will confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him and he in God..."

"It is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth." (1Jn.2:20; 2:27; 3:24; 4:13-15; and  5:6c)

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, the Spirit of truth which proceeds from the Father, He shall bear witness of Me." (Jn.15:26)

"Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send Him unto you.  And He, when He is come, will convict the world in respect of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they believe not on Me; of righteousness, because I go to the Father and you behold Me no more; of judgment, because the prince of this world has been judged." (Jn.16:7-11)

-SPIRITUAL SEAL-

"Now He that established us with you unto Christ and anointed us is God, Who also sealed us and gave us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts." (2Cor.1:21,22)

"In Him you also, having heard the Word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, which is an earnest of our inheritance." (Eph.1:13,14a)

"God also bearing witness with them both by signs and wonders, and by various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His Own will." (Heb.2:4)

"The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God." (Rom.8:16)

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God these are the sons of God." (Rom.8:14)

"But you (beloved) are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.  But if any man has not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His." (Rom.8:9)

EARNEST-defined (Webster's): 2. Something given or done as an assurance of what is to come; token; pledge.

-SPIRITUAL WORSHIP-

Jn.4:21-24 explains the method and place of worship for the people of God during this dispensation:

"The hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall you worship the Father. You worship that which you know not; we worship that which we know, for salvation is from the Jews.  But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth; for such does the Father seek to be His worshippers. God is Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship in Spirit and in truth."

Our Lord clearly tells us that the place of worship is no longer in this physical world: "Not in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem".  Facts that are confirmed in Gal.4:24-26:

"Which things contain an allegory.  For these two women are two covenants: one from Mt.Sinai bearing children unto bondage, which is Hagar—now this Hagar is Mt.Sinai in Arabia, and answers to Jerusalem that now is, and is in bondage with her children—but the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is our mother."

And remembering  (Heb.12:18-24):

"You are not come to a mountain that might be touched... but you are come to Mt.Zion and to the city of the Living God, to the Heavenly Jerusalem... to the general assembly and Church of the Firstborn who are enrolled in Heaven".

Phil.3:20 tells us, “our citizenship is in Heaven".

Col.3:1 adds, “You were raised together with Christ, so seek the things that are above where Christ is"...

To correctly understand the Word of God during this dispensation, it is essential that we thoroughly understand the preceding Scriptures.  We are now in a Spiritual time!  We of the Church are in the world, but we are not of the world.  Our relationship with God must be first, a Spiritual relationship, and our real home must be our eternal home in Heaven where God resides.  We must not lose sight of these facts.  We of the Church represent a peoples who are being called out of darkness into the Kingdom of the Son of His love.  We must remember that as the things of the earth are earthly, so the things of Heaven are heavenly.  Now if we look to the things of the earth, we cannot see nor understand the heavenly things. So as we look at places and things in the New Testament Scriptures, we must keep this rule in mind: our plane of thought and understanding must be Spiritual and Heavenly.  -AMEN-
